An M&E take-off needs more than a drawing count. The useful starting point is the trade, the current drawings and schedules, and the output you need: measured quantities, a BoQ check, pricing support or a change review.
Send the scope together
Share the relevant layouts, schematics, equipment schedules, specifications and tender clarifications. Identify revisions and tell me about any contractor design, coordination or specialist supplier scope. Information that is not yet issued should be listed as outstanding.
Separate measurement from design
Measuring an item from the available information does not confirm that the design is complete, coordinated or suitable. Design questions need the responsible designer or specialist. The quantity record should show its source and any assumptions, not hide those questions in a total.
Agree what the rate includes
Supply, installation, supports, accessories, testing and commissioning may be priced together or separately. Agree that basis and identify the supplier or subcontract quotations to use. Do not assume an equipment price covers the complete installed package.
Keep the output easy to check
A practical output links the quantity schedule to drawing references or mark-ups and keeps exclusions and outstanding clarifications visible. Send a sample of the information and the deadline so that the scope, fee and completion date can be agreed.
